Back when I reviewed Blu Capri I mentioned how it nicely represented the turquoise waters off the shore of the aforementioned island, well here we now have an aquamarine to represent the early evening waters around the Adriatic coast. Once more we have an interesting and appropriately coloured ink from Scrittura Bolognese.

Pomegranate, that sweet red fruit from around the Mediterranean, not just Southern Europe, but also North Africa and the Middle East. Mentioned through out history, its deep pink colour works well in the ScriBo line up who’s inks do not quite match the usual options provided as standard by other ink makers.

A legacy of using it too much at school in my teens, I generally find blue-black inks rather boring, but not all. The name Cosmico brings to mind night skies full of stars. Unsurprisingly this ink could be considered a match for the Feel A Riveder Le Stelle, which represented exactly that.

Sepia has been often used to describe a brown without any real agreement on what it should look like. Part of this is due to the origins being an extract from the defensive ink of the cuttlefish, after which it is named. Alas with one exception, real spepia can not be used in fountain pens else they will quickly clog up (the exception being produced by a small Japanese chemist and sold only through one small pen maker of renown). Not an issue for the Romans in the time when they were still a republic, but certainly one for us today. Instead we have safe inks using the name, and how appropriate it is for the name to be used by a brand based in a city which was around before Rome expanded beyond it’s city walls to conquer it.

This was the first of the additional inks to be added to the ScriBo line up. Notturno Viola matches the limited edition Feel Viola pen while adding a purple to the ink line up. Described by it’s maker as Mystic and Biting it certainly lends towards thoughts of witchcraft and Gothic horror.

The brightness of this green ink reminds me of the spring. The sun shining off fresh grass and young leaves on trees while there is still a slight chill in the air. An ink for journalling an April walk perhaps.

Translating as Cinnamon Yellow, Scrittura Bolognese have provided us with a colour I would more associate with winter, partly due to the use of this spice in Europe over the darker months. One that should provide an inner warmth on a cold evening by the fire.

This blog, well the fountain pen part, came about partly through my interviewing Luca Baglione of Scrittura Bolognese over the launch of the Feel in October 2018, which had just occurred with the help of Write Here of Shrewsbury. It was being recorded by Penultimate Dave and between them I finally had my armed twisted enough to write my first piece. What does this have to do with Grigio SCRIBO? Well off the back of the interview I ordered one of the first Feel pens to be sold directly from ScriBo. This first batch, and just the ones sold through the maker, came with a 20ml bottle of a unnamed ScriBo ink which matched the corporate colours and the grey-blue pen I had just bought. This is this ink was a beautiful colour but also rather wet, however it was also running out. Over two years passed before ScriBo launched their ink range and amongst them was Grigio SCRIBO. The question must be, is it the same ink?
