I try not to do the Daily Carry and Daily Use posts too often as to me they can feel a bit like fillers, especially as changes are slow, however it has been just over a year since I last discussed what I take with me to the office where I volunteer. I must square up and level with you on this one that I have been somewhat busy these last few weeks with my other hobby, which has also caused a delay in posts and reviews.
There are four changes from the previous post, though there have been a few others that have been swapped in and out over the year. The only catch being I can’t remember what most were.
Still in place:
- First to be kept is the rOtring Initial with the medium steel nib and filled with Pelikan Edelstein Topaz (slow ink evaporation over a long time has darkened the ink as can be seen in the writing sample).
- The second is my Aurora Optima in green Auroraloid (Green 996-v) with a 14k fine gold nib and filled with Lamy Black.
- While I could consider Pelikan Duo ink to be a bit of fun, for it does not work as well as the more traditional Stablo style highlighters, and neither work with fountain pen ink (you will always get smears) it still comes out with me. If not used for a while, the ink does gum up slightly, causing rough starts.
Added:
- 18111 Gold Dancing Feathers in Cosmic Storm with a Franklin Christoph fine SIG nib and filled with Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-Ho. Been a long time since this one was last used. Beautiful pen with a great nib.
- Turquoise TWSBI Eco with a 1.1mm steel nib, filled with Diamine Happy Holidays. This has been added as I like using shimmer inks for birthday and celebratory cards and those are done in the office.
- ScriBo La Dotta in the Al Zigant finish with a fine 14k gold ‘Extra Flexible’ nib and filled with Diamine A Night in Jodhpur. This was a purchase at last October’s London Pen Show. Review to follow at some point.
- Kilk Novo Baroque with a fine steel nib and filled with Kyo-Iro Moonlight over Higashiyama. Another pen that has not been used for a long time and was only added a few days back (replacing the Sailor KoP Fire).
Dropped:
- First to be dropped was my Sailor King of Pen Sunset over the Ocean with a medium 21k gold nib. While I enjoyed using it, I needed something to be dropped for the Gravitas Ulitimate Vac filler.
- Next was the amber Pilot Custom Heritage 823 with a medium gold nib, which has now joined my daily use set.
- The third was the OMAS 360 Vintage Turquoise Demonstrator with an 18k extra fine gold nib. This was replaced with the present ScriBo.
- The final pen, and the prompt for this post as it was removed just a couple of days ago, was my Sailor Pro Gear KoP Fire limited edition with 21k gold medium nib. One of the longest lasting in the collection, it was not used that much and alas it is not the best of pens when it comes to ink evaporation.
Added then Dropped:
- Gravitas Ultimate Vac with fine steel nib. This was moved in to the collection and used quite heavily, then moved out while awaiting a replacement seal ring. Unfortunately Ben’s reputation for slow postage and responses (despite quick replies at first) have reared their ugly head here.
- Lamy 2000 with medium 14k gold nib. Last seen in my daily collection, this did go to work with me for a while.
Edit – and yes from the post title with did go up one day early 😉
