The Autumn London Pen Show is just under two and a half weeks away and I will be there, however this time I have finally pulled my finger out and booked a table.
I have been talking about this for years and even mentioned it in my 2022 end of the year post, however now I have committed and paid the princely sum of £90 for a table. I am actually nervous, for not only may I fail to sell any pens but I also may not sell enough to consider the reclaimed moneys worth it. I say reclaimed moneys as I have gone through and priced everything appropriately. I will be making a loss on all the pens up for sale, or at least should be. I basically looked up prices and used those for a basis.
Now I did create a list four years back when I first tried selling some of my pens on Facebook, but that contained only around a dozen. It grew slightly over time. After the December post I increased the number to just over 20 pens, however the total for sale now stands at 36 fountain pens.
First thing I did was go through the already listed pens and find their boxes. I then started looking at my pen trays for pens I was unlikely to use again and which did not have emotional connections. Truth be told I could do with identifying another 15-20, but it is actually quite a hard task for a hoarder such as I. Even though this was completed a week ago, I now have everything packed away and ready, along with a bottle of ink, paper, a cloth, and a bottle of water in case some one wants to dip test (and then I may be selective to people, I know, after all I do not want a nib sprung).
In seven to ten days time I will look once more at my pen trays, so the numbers may increase. Wish me luck on the day and you’re welcome to say hi, even more welcome to buy something from me 🙂 . I will post about my experiences and results after.
One thing to mention. After I previously mentioned I was thinking of hiring a table I did have a number of you offer to contribute to the cost if I could also try and sell some of your pens. I am not open to that, at least not this time due to various complications, though I do have a fellow pen club member potentially joining me at the table.
Well done Gary – this is very commendable. I should really do the same, although I am not quite there yet, in being ready to let go of many of my accumulation.
I look forward to seeing you there and wish you success with your sales. Good luck also in not ploughing the proceeds straight back into more pens 🙂
